Santa Bear With Ornament

This tutorial was written in PSP 7, but can probably be revised for earlier version, however, has not been tested for use with other versions! I hope  you enjoy this tutorial as much as I have creating it for you! It has been quiet some time since I have written a tutorial and I wanted to try to get at least one more written before Christmas. So my Christmas present to you is selections;)) Enjoy!! Supplies needed for this tutorial

1. My selection files. Download those Here. If you don't have a selection folder in psp, create one now. Download these into your selection folder.

2. Fantastic Machines Paint Engine. (Optional) Download HERE.

 

Lets Get Started

 

1.  Open a new 455 by 370  (16.7 million colors) transparent image. 

2.  Layers, new raster layer and name this layer left leg.

3.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color #83673F.

4.  Selections, load from disk. Choose leftleg.sel file. Click open.

5.  Flood fill black. 

6.  Selections, modify, contract by 2. Flood fill with your background color  #83673F.

7.  Leave selected, then go to effects, plug-in-filters, fantastic machines paint engine and use these settings.

8.  Selections, select none.

9.  Selections, select all. Selections float. Selections invert. (your marching ants should be around your entire image as well as your left leg!).

10. Effects, 3D effects, drop shadow. Use these settings. Color is #342510.

11. Selections, select none.

12. Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer right leg.

13. Selections, load from disk. Choose rightleg.sel. Click open.

14. Repeat steps 5-11. 

15. Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer ornament.

16. Foreground (styles) color should be black. Background color should be a color you want to use for your ornament. I am using #B24D39.

17. Selections, load from disk, choose ornament.sel. Click open.

18. Flood fill with black. 

19. Selections, modify, contract by 2, flood fill with #B24D39.

20. Selections, select none.

21. Selections, select all, selections float, selections invert.

22. Effects, 3D effects, drop shadow, use these settings. Color is #652419.

23. Selections select none.

24. Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer ornament top front..

25. Selections load from disk, choose ornamenttopfront.sel. Click open.

26. Foreground (styles) color still set at black. Background color needs to be this gold fill below. Right click and save as to your patterns folder in psp. (Make sure you save this as a bmp file, otherwise it will not show up in your psp patterns folder). (Thank you lemur from FlyByNightGraphics for pointing this out to me).

27. Flood fill with black.

28. Selections, modify, contract by 2, flood fill with the gold pattern shown above. Your image should be looking similar to this.

29. Selections, select none.

30. Selections, select all, selections float. Selections invert.

31. Effects, 3D effects, drop shadow. Use these settings. Color is black.

32. Selections, select none.

33. Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer ornament top.

34. Selections, load from disk, choose ornamenttop.sel. Click open.

35. Repeat steps 27-30.

36. Effects, 3D effects, drop shadow use these settings. Color Black. 

37. Selections, select none.
