Tutorial

I hope you enjoy this tutorial as much as I have creating it. This tutorial was created in PSP 7. I am not really sure what inspired this little guy but was just playing in PSP and Hershal was the results. Please do not link to nor remove any part of this tutorial in any way. Supplies you will need to complete this tutorial.

1.   Preset shapes. Download those HERE. Unzip these into your preset shapes folder in PSP. 

2.   My pattern file. Download that HERE. Unzip this into your pattern folder in psp.

3.   My hand psp files. (Incase you don't want to try your own). Download those HERE. Export these into your tubes folder).

Lets get started

1.   Open a new 600 by 600 (16.7 Million colors) transparent image.

2.   Foreground (styles) color black. Background needs to be the silver pattern you downloaded earlier. (Note: Click on the arrow on the right and choose pattern then choose silver).

3.   Preset shapes tool with below settings. Using teardrop preset shape.

4.   Draw a teardrop shape for the body. The size is up to you on how small you want it or how big you want it. 

5.   Object selector tool right click and go to node edit. The very bottom node needs to be brought up to form a line from Hershey's body. Similar to this image below.

6.   When you get the bottom of the body the shape you want it. Right click and quit node editing.

7.   Layers, convert to raster. Name this layer body. Your image should look similar to this. (Note: Images used in this tutorial have been resized for download time. Your image will have better resolution and be larger).

8.   Foreground (styles) color black. Background color white.

9.   Preset shapes tool. Same settings you used earlier. Draw a oval shape for Hershey's eye. 

10.  Move your mouse over the middle of your eye until you see circle arrows. Rotate your eye to the right side just a little.

11.  Layers, convert to raster. Name this layer left eye.

12.  Effects, 3D effects, inner bevel. Use these settings.

13.  Layers, duplicate. Image mirror. Place this eye just beside of the left eye. Your image should look similar to this.

14.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color  #074193. (Or a color you want to use for the inner eye).

15.  Using your preset shapes tool, draw a shape similar to Hershey's eye this time only smaller as it will go on the inside of the white area. (Note: Remember to convert this layer to raster and rename the layer inside eye, then go to layers duplicate, then image mirror).

16.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color should be your silver pattern fill.

17.  Preset shapes tool (same settings). Draw a teardrop shape for Hershey's nose. 

18.  Layers convert to raster. Rename this layer nose.

19.  Effects, 3D effects, inner bevel. Use same settings as you used on the eyes. Your image should look similar to this.

20.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color black.

21.  Preset shapes tool (same settings only this time using your ellipse.

22.  Draw an oval shape for Hershey's mouth. 

23.  Using object selector tool right click and node edit. Drag the two side nodes up and the very top node down just a little to form a smile similar to this.

24.  When you have the shape of his mouth the way you want it, right click and quit node editing. 

25.  Layers, convert to raster. Name this layer mouth.

26.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer detail. (Layers arrange bring to top).

27.  Foreground (style) color black. Background null.

28.  Draw tool with the settings below. Draw some lines along the sides of the eyes, draw some cheeks lines and and some lines going below the eyes.

29.  Effects blur, gaussian blur. Use radius of 1.99.

Your image should now look similar to this.

30.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer cheeks.

31.  Foreground color #FF7D7D.

32.  Airbrush tool with settings below, spray some cheeks beside the cheek lines. (Note: You may need to adjust the size, depending upon the size you have drawn hershal).

33.  Effects, blur, gaussian blur. Use radius of 26.74.

34.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer teeth.

35.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color white.

36.  Preset shapes tool using rounded rectangle, with these settings. 

37.  Draw two small rectangles for Hershey's teeth. Your image should look similar to this.

38.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color should be your pattern silver.

39.  Using preset shapes tool with these settings. Ellipse is the preset shape.

40.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer tongue.

41.  Draw a small oval shape for Hershey's tongue. (Note: We will be colorizing the tongue next).

42.  Colors, colorize. Use these settings.

43.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer hair. (Layers arrange send to bottom).

44.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color null.

45.  Draw tool with the settings below. Draw about three sprigs of hair on top of Hershey's head. 

Hershey should now look something like this.
