Bunney's Fallen Snowman Page 3 Add a new raster layer and name this layer mitten. Change your background color to a dark red or what ever color you want your mitten's to be. I am using #800000. Change your foreground (styles) color also to #800000 or whatever color you are using for your mittens. Using your preset shapes tool same ellipse shape as before. Draw an oval ellipse shape for the mitten. Move your mouse over the inside of the mitten till you see the double arrows and rotate it to the left so that it fits almost over the top of your snowman's arm like this. Using your object selector tool right click on the inside of your mitten and go to node edit. Bring the bottom node up to where it forms almost a straight line. When you click on the bottom node in the center of it you will see an arrow come up pull that arrow out so that the bottom of the mitten is over as far to the sides as your arm is like this. Pull the bottom node up just a little more toward the top. Once you get this set the way you want it right click and go to quit node editing then to layers convert to raster. Rename this layer mitten. Now using your preset shape tool again same settings and same color draw another ellipse shape to the right side of your mitten for the thumb. Using your arrows in the middle of the thumb rotate it to the left. Edit it using your object selector if you need to. I didn't do that on mine. Once you get your thumb the way you want it right click and go to quit node editing. Then go to layers convert to raster and rename this layer thumb. Using your preset shapes tool once again this time change the shape to rectangle with these settings. Now draw a rectangle. You will have to move this around with your double arrows when moving your mouse over the inside of your rectangle. What you want to accomplish doing this is the bottom part of the cuff for the mitten. You should have something similar to this. Once you get your bottom part of your mitten (cuff) set the way you want it right click and go to node edit. Rename this layer cuff. Open your layer palette and place an x on all layers except your thumb, cuff, and mitten. Merge visible these layers and rename mitten. I learned this effect from a very talented lady Ronni who so graciously gave me permission to use this effect. You can find her wonderful tutorial on creating mittens by going HERE. You will be glad you paid her a visit. She has some excellent tutorials;)) Getting back to the tutorial *S* Once you have your mitten the way you want it I added the eye candy weave effect by going to effects, plug in filters, eye candy 4000, weave and used these settings. The fill color I used is #946952. Go to selections, select all, selections float. Now add a cut out effect using these settings I only added the one cut out effect. Once you have your mitten the way you want it open your layer palette make sure you are on your mitten layer and duplicate this layer and them go to image mirror. Your mitten will now be placed on the other side. This is what you should have. Add a new raster layer no need to name this layer. Using your draw tool with these settings Make sure your background color is set to null foreground (styles) color should still be on black. Draw a curve line going down from his thumb like this Do the same curve line for your other mitten only going in the opposite direction. Now go to effects, blur, gaussian blur change your radius to 1.00. Click ok. Next we will be working on the snowman's hat. Now change your background color back to the dark red you have been using for your mittens. I am using #800000. Using your preset shapes tool this time we are going to use our triangle preset shape with these settings. Draw a triangle toward the top part of your snowman's head. Using your object selector tool right click on the inside of your triangle and go to node edit. Bring the bottom two nodes in to where they are touching the snowman's head like this. On the left and right side of your hat using your CTRL on your keyboard click on the side to add a node to both sides like this. Pull your top node over and out to the left side similar to this Then pull it down to toward the bottom. Pull the right hand node that you added to the top to form a point. Now right click on your top node and go to node type and chose symmetric. Right click also on the far left node the one at the point to the left and go to node type and choose symmetric. Going to the bottom of your hat, using CTRL on your keyboard add 4 (four) nodes to the bottom of your hat. Now just pull those nodes up to the top of your snowman's head. Don't worry if they aren't perfect you will be covering it up with fur later. When you get your hat the way you want it right click again and go to quit node editing. Then go to layers convert to raster and rename this layer hat. Apply the same cut out effect as you did on your mittens. Then add the same Eye Candy weave effect using the same settings as the mittens. This is what you should have. Starting to take some shape now huh? LOL Not to much left so go on over to page 4 and we will add the fur and his face;)) This Tutorial ©
