"Elfie" A cute little Elf Tutorial By Bunney Page 3 Add a new raster layer and name this layer hat. Change your background color back to the same red you used for his pants and body. I am using #C00000. Using your preset shapes tool this time we want to use the triangle with these settings Draw a triangle on your elf's head, we will need to edit this a little so using your object selector tool right click on the inside of your triangle then go to node edit. Move node's 1 (one) and 2 (two) to the sides of the elf's head like this Right click on node 2 and go to node type and choose symmetric. Drag the arrows up and around so that the bottom part of the hat forms a curve. Do the same thing to node 1. This is what you should have. Once you get your hat shaped the way you want it, right click on the inside of the hat and go to quit node editing and then to layers convert to raster and name this layer hat. Now using your magic wand click on your image so that the hat has marching ants around only the hat, you may have to go to selections invert to make sure that ONLY the hat is selected. Take your airbrush tool with these settings And begin spraying around the hats outer edges like you did with the elf's head. This is what you should have. Add a new raster layer and name this layer flower. Change your background color to white, Foreground (styles) color should still be set at black. Using your preset shapes tool this time using Flower 5 making sure create as vector is NOT checked. I have zipped this Flower 5 for you incase you don't have it. You can get it here. You will need to unzip this into your psp shapes folder. If after unzipping you have problems viewing the shapes, open up your psp and go to file, browse, and browse till you find your psp shapes folder. You should see the shapes in that folder. Open that up and go to files export shapes and rename them then you should be able to view them. Now draw a flower on the top of your elf's hat Like this Using the same method we did earlier using your magic want select the flower and go to selections invert so that the marching ants are only around the flower, use your airbrush tool same settings as you used on the hat and spray just a little black around the outer edges of the flower. Now for the ears. Change your background color back to the same peach or pink color you used for your elf's head. I am using #EDB39B. Using your preset shapes tool again this time changing it back to the ellipse shape Draw an oval shape for the ear like this
Using your object selector tool right click and go to node edit. Bring the top node over to the left and bring it into a point. The bottom node needs to get a little rounded and bring it out just a little to the right like this Once you get your ear shaped the way you want it right click on the inside of the ear again and go to quit node editing, then to layers convert to raster and name this layer ear. To get the other ear, go to edit copy edit paste as a new selection, then image mirror and place on the opposite side. This image below shows the insides of the ear and the black around the ears, your image will NOT have that yet. To get the inside parts of the ear while your colors are still set at the peach or pink using your draw tool same settings as earlier line width set at 1 (one) and just draw the insides of the ear using your imagination;)) Don't forget to use your magic wand and select the ears when you finish drawing the inside of the ear then going to selections invert so that only the ears are selected and use your airbrush same settings as we used earlier for the hat and spray a little black around the ears like shown above. Open your layer palette and drag your ears layer to the bottom so that your ears are on the backside of your elf's head and hat. Now to add his hair. Using your draw tool same settings line width set at 1. Add a new raster layer and name this layer hair, you will need to set your background color to null. click on the little arrow until you see the circle with a line thru it on your colors palette, click that for your background and that puts your background color to null. Foreground (styles) color should still be set on black. Just draw in some small lines for the hair as shown below. Make sure that this layer goes beneath the hat layer. This is what you should have. Are you ready to make the elf's hands and feet? Move on over to page 4. This Tutorial ©
