"Diddley Doodle" 

Doodle Bug Tutorial

This tutorial was created in PSP 7.  I am assuming you have basic working knowledge of PSP.  If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to email me at kitchel@isponline.net and I will answer all email as soon as possible. Don't ask where the inspiration from this little doodle bug came from, I am really not sure. I was just playing in psp and working with shapes and this is what evolved lol.  Please do not remove, nor link to any of these images. These images and tutorial are ©Bunney's Burrow 2001-02. 

No outside filters where used to create this tutorial.

Supplies needed to complete this tutorial.

1.  My selection files. Download those HERE

2.  Preset shapes for decorating purposes. Download those

  HERE. Unzip them into your psp shapes folder.

Lets Get Started!

1.   Open a new 500 by 500 (16.7 Million colors) transparent image. 

2.   Foreground (styles) color black. Background color a color you wish to use for your doodle bug. I am using #800000.

3.   Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer car body.

4.   Selections, load from disk. Choose carbody.sel. Click ok. 

5.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 3. Flood fill with #800000.

6.  Selections, select none. Selections select all. Selections float. Selections invert.   

7.   Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use these settings.

8.  Selections select none.  

9.  Layers new raster layer. Name this layer tires.

10. Selections, load from disk. Choose tires.sel. Click ok.    

11.  Flood fill with black. .

12.  Effects, 3D effects, inner bevel. Use these settings.

13.  Selections, select none.

14.  Layers, arrange, send to bottom.

15. Open layer palette and highlight your car body layer and add a new  raster layer. Name this layer bumper.

16.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color #808080.

17.  Selections, load from disk. Choose bumper.sel. Click ok.

18.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 2. Flood fill with #808080.

19.  Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections, float. Selections invert.

20.  Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use same settings as you used before. 

21.  Selections, select none.

 
22.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer windshield.

23.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color #404040.

24.  Selections, load from disk. Choose windshield.sel. Click ok.

25.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 2. 

26.  On your background color, click on the little arrow on the right. Choose gradient. Choose #1 Foreground-Background. Then change the settings to these below.

27.  Then flood fill with your background gradient. You should have something similar to this.

 

28.  Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections, float. Selections invert. 

29.  Effects, 3D effects, drop shadow. Use same settings as you used in #7. 

30.  Selections, select none.

31.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer hood.

32.  Selections, load from disk. Choose hood.sel. Click ok.

33.  Foreground (styles) color black. Background color #800000. (Or the color you have chosen for your doodle bug).

34.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 3 flood fill with #800000.

34.  Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections float. Selections invert.

35.  Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use same settings as in # 7, only change the blur to 11.

36.  Selections, select none.

37.  Highlight your windshield layer in your layer palette and add a new raster layer. Name this layer wipers.

38.  Selections, load from disk. Choose wipers.sel. Click ok.

39.  Flood fill with black.

40.  Effects 3D effects inner bevel. Use same settings as shown in # 12.

41.  Selections, select none. Your doodle bug should look similar to this. (Note: The images used in this tutorial have been resized and compressed for download time, Your image will be larger and show more detail).
