"Geoffrey Giraffe" 

Tutorial

Lets Get Started!

Supplies needed to complete this tutorial.

1.  My selection files. Download those HERE. Unzip these into your selections folder in PSP. If you do not have a selection folder create one now.

 

1.   Open a new 600 by 600 (16.7 Million colors) transparent image.

2.   Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer back hind leg..

3.   Foreground (styles) color Black. Background color #FFAD31.

4.   Selections, load from disk, choose backhindleg.sel. Click ok.

5.   Selections, modify, feather by 1. pixel.

6.   Flood fill with black. Selections, modify, contract by 1. Flood fill with #FFAD31.

7.   Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections float. Selections invert.

8.   Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use these settings.

9.   Selections, select none.   

10.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer front leg.

11.   Selections, load from disk. Choose frontleg.sel. Click ok. 

12.   Repeat steps 5 thru 9.

13.   Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer tail.

14.   Selections, load from disk. Choose tail.sel. Click ok. 

15.   Repeat steps 5 thru 9.

16.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer tail end.

17.  Selections, load from disk. Choose tailend.sel.  Click ok.

18.  Repeat steps 5 thru 9.

19.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer body.

20.  Selections, load from disk. Choose body.sel. Click ok.

21.  Repeat steps 5 thru 7. (Note: We are going to add a different drop shadow to the body).

22.  Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use these settings.

 

23.  Selections, select none.

24.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer front hoof. 

25.  Selections, load from disk. Choose front hoof.sel. Click ok.

26.  Selections, modify, feather by 1.  

27.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 2. Flood fill with #5C421D.

28.  Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections float. Selections invert. 

29.  Effects 3D effects, drop shadow. Use same settings only change blur to 11.1.

30.  Selections, select none.

31.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer back hooves.

32.  Selections, load from disk. Choose back hoof.sel. Click ok.

33.  Repeat steps 26 thru 30.

34.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer spots 1. 

35.  Selections, load from disk. Choose spots1.sel. Click ok.

36.  Selections, modify feater by 1 pixel. 

37.  Flood fill with black. Selections, modify contract by 1. Flood fill with  #5C421D.

38.  Selections, select none. Selections, select all. Selections, float. Selections invert.

39.  Effects 3D effects drop shadow. Use same settings. 

40.  Selections, select none.

41.   For the next 3 steps, you will need to repeat the spots as shown above. You will have spots2.sel. spots 3.sel and tailspots.sel. Do all of these spots the exact same way you did for spots 1. Don't forget to add them each to a different layer. And don't forget the drop shadow.

42.  Layers, new raster layer. Name this layer eye.

43.  Foreground (styles) color black. 

44.  Using airbrush tool with these settings, spray a dot for the giraffes eye. (You can get more creative with the eyes if you wish, this is just the way I chose to do his eye).

 

45.  Layers, merge visible. Rename this layer giraffe. Your giraffe is now finished and you can tube him for use later. Here is my final image.
